About Pragalathan Farm
Organic sustainable farming in Tamil Nadu, India.
The purpose of Pragalathan Farm is to serve as an example of sustainable organic farming that supports the local community and is open to visitors and volunteers.
Sumithra began the farm 5 years ago to counteract what she sees as the environmentally destructive and unsustainable farming practises prevalent in India and the world today, such as excessive use of poisonous chemicals, mono-cropping, abuse of animals, etc.
The main focus of our farming is to preserve the tradition of long-duration paddy cropping. Modern agriculture in India is forsaking this practise in favour of short-term profits, to the detriment of the soil and the nutritional value of the rice.
